Leave No Trace Behind

LNTAs stewards of the land, Theme Camps have a greater responsibility to ensure we lead the other burners by our actions.  If you’re not aware, our camp will be graded on our ability to leave our plot of land sparkling clean and free of any MOOP.  For those that aren’t familiar with the Burning Man policies of LNTB or MOOP, can read all the details here: http://blog.burningman.com/tag/burners-guide-to-leaving-no-trace/

We will bring up (3) covered plastic trash cans and heavy duty trash bags.  Each one will be dedicated for:  Trash, Aluminum and Plastics (recyclables & no water containers).

*** Glass bottles will be returned back in the containers they came from.***

Water Containers

Every year, we have tons of these being tossed into our trash cans.  They take up too much room, so once you’re done with ANY plastic water container, flatten it and take it back with you.

For your shower water, I suggest bringing at least (2) 1-gal water bottles that you can portion control your water usage and warm up in the sun, then refill and use again for your next shower.  Please mark your bottles with a sharpie or something and keep it by your sleeping quarters.  DO NOT leave empty water containers in the shower area!   Once again, you pack it in, you pack it out.

Glass Beer Bottles

More and more GOOD beers are only available in glass bottles and moving away from aluminum.  Since we only have GREAT BEER, we need help packing out glass bottles.  So, if you bring a case of bottled beer, KEEP the box!!  We need to put the empty bottles back in and take home.  Please understand that a bag of glass bottles is not fun to deal with when they break inside.  Reusing the original packaging will reduce the potential for broken glass.

Rakes, Shovels & Brooms

These will be brought up, and available for use anytime.  If there is a need to clean up something, please be proactive and use the tools we have.

Trash

The truck hauling our infrastructure up will also take back a sizeable amount of trash to the dump, but we can’t take all of it.  Everyone needs to ensure they take as many full trash bags as possible out of our camp when leaving.

With regards to full trash containers, please take the initiative and tie up (duct tape) and write on the bag as to it’s contents and put underneath the Budget truck.  Empty trash bags will be at the bottom of of the trash can – pretty much a no brainer in setting up for the next batch of trash.  Also, take a moment to sort out the wrong items before you tie up the bags.

MOOP Sweeps, Dome and camp house-keeping

Everyday, please ensure that you spend time mooping the camp.  My biggest bitch is keeping the dome, bar and kitchen areas clean.  We do not live in a frat house, and the dome can quickly become one, especially at night time.  I’m kind of a neat freak, and nothing irks me more than walking into the dome and seeing a bar full of crap, spilled drinks, food, trash, etc.

Many guests stop by to see us throughout the week – take pride in your camp!  We want people to be impressed, so if there’s a mess, don’t wait for someone to clean it up or ask you to help clean up.  Just roll up your sleeves, wipe the bar and coffee table down, take out the trash, clean out the bar cooler and take some ownership without being asked to do so.

This is all pretty straight forward, and I’m sure you will ALL make an effort to ensure we’re model citizens of BRC.
