Lampshades, Lampshades, Lampshades…

Back in 2010, I had a bunch of round pieces of plywood from a few yurts I built. Then a lightbulb flashed in my head to make bistro tables with little red lamp shades. It only took 7 more burns before I got a wild hair and found a use for our dome-raising contraption that was used as a flagpole with a poor excuse for a flag! That’s when it struck me, why not make a HUGE bistro table and lampshade.

12 small lampshades and one giant lampshade simply wasn’t enough, plus, I’m always finding ways for our campmates to contribute their artistic skills towards our ever changing camp presentation. After 2 years, we have a found a little niche for everyone to participate in, regardless of where they’re coming from, and create something that will be used for years to come – more lampshades!

Moving forward, we will continue to add more LED stringed lights and require everyone in our camp to bring a lovely, customized lampshade to add to our collection.

Guidelines:

  • Medium/small sized shades only (no larger than 8″ tall, and 12″ wide) See examples below
  • Spider fitter is preferred type of shade frame so we can attached securely:
Softback Bell Lampshade, Faux Silk, 14-inch, Spider-fitter — urbanest
  • Use hot glue or other strong adhesives
  • Do not use feathers, or any moop-proned materials that will fall off
  • Don’t make them too heavy – we don’t have a specific weight limit, so use good judgement
  • Plan for light to shine through the shade material at night
  • HAVE FUN & BE CREATIVE!
